Purple Water Sprite

Purple Water Sprite
5x7" colored pencil & graphite on bristol board

I have always thought that water sprites and mermaids should be just as mysterious and deadly as their less fantastical counterparts...

Also, I know I'm a bit behind the curve on this, but I'm currently OBSESSED with this book. The Hunger Games

Anyway, I hope everyone is well! Have a very happy Valentine's Day!
Does anyone have special plans? ^_-

  1. Oh! This is wonderful! I was drawn to this straight away. I love the deep purples and high contrasting white silhouettes for the water plants, all those details the way it stems off everywhere and yet flows so perfectly, you are amazing :)

  7. Love this! I especially love when mermaids have pointy or gill-like ears (I just did a mermaid piece, too...heehee)...

The seaweed look of her top is great...and the lighting, truly magical :)

  19. Hello Sara. How are you? :)

Now I like your gorgeous sprite. There's something mysterious and innocently sensuous about her. The purple just works really well with the whole piece.
