Albany Comic Con 10.30.11

 I had a wonderful time at Comic Con last Sunday! We had a snowstorm up here, so it was a bit quieter than normal, but the people who showed up were really sweet and enthusiastic!

 I shared an art booth with my extremely talented friend, Penelope Barbalios - check out her gorgeous art!

A few more pieces I made especially for Comic Con... don't worry, I'll be back to drawing unicorns and bunnies soon!

 

Grandma

 My grandmother passed away a few days ago. She was an incredibly inspiring and wonderful person and I miss her deeply. This is my favorite photo of her - doesn't she look wonderful? I don't have any new art to post, but my grams loved flowers. These are from my garden...

Little Jackrabbits: Rachael Jackson

I have been lucky enough to be the winner of  this gorgeous Rachael Jackson (of Little Jackrabbits) painting!

 This work is called Paulie (look how gorgeous it looks in the exhibition below!). I feel so lucky to be taking Paulie home with me!

This one is a very late Christmas present for my fabulous Aunt, who is the best and most supportive aunt anyone could ask for! (But Shhhhh! Don't tell her, she doesn't know yet! ^_-)

 

One of the reasons I was so late with everything this year is that my little white cat Bonnard got very sick the week before Christmas and had to stay at the animal hospital for several nights. He finally came home in time for Christmas because he wouldn't eat when we weren't with him! He's on several medications right now and still needs more tests, but he is doing so much better and we are so happy to have him back. (So is his brother, Berlioz, who has barely left his side since he got home! That was the first time they have ever been apart.)

 And, right in time for this blog post, look at what I got in the mail!!! This is a gift from my very talented friend Anita (go check out her website and her blog)!

She made the most beautiful cards, which are printed on such gorgeous paper! I'm so happy to own a card with her illustration!

She also included gorgeous handmade ornaments and the cutest little lion sticker! You can't tell, but the sticker is glittery and has the coolest texture. Also, the ribbons for the ornaments are so nice and velvety...

Gosh, I am going to have to step my cards up next year! tehehe

Presents to Myself.... (And 7 Things...)

So I have a habit of buying little things for myself when I am under stress. (READ: I recklessly spend money throughout the entire second half of any given semester.)

Anyway, I wanted to share my most recent etsy purchases! All of these items are handmade, inexpensive, and totally worth it.

 I smiled so much when my mailman gave me this hand-decorate envelope! So precious!

 So... I've got a confession: I'm a terrible photographer. Like, really terrible. So I hope you'll go see this gorgeous pocket mirror and postcard in Yee Von's shop, because I could just not do them any justice. (That little deer is the back of a hand-written note from Yee Von - so beautiful.)

This is the first story in the book. As soon as I got my package in the mail, I sat down and read this hand-made book cover-to-cover. It contains a mixture of beautiful and absolutely hilarious stories and poems, all of which I highly recommend! I didn't want to give anything away by posting photos, but this book is filled with some absolutely stunning illustrations that are not to be missed!

I have had this necklace for a few weeks now and it has quickly become one of my favorite necklaces! I am completely enamored with the delicate little bird and it looks good with everything! I got the tiny version, because I like small jewelry, but there is a larger version with this design as well.

1. I am going to school to be a children's librarian.

2. I drink way too much tea (as in 5 cups a day is a "slow day" for me).

3. My favorite charity is the World Wildlife Fund.

4. Rice noodles are delicious.

5. I love dolls, too! Pinky St and J-Dolls are my current favorites. I have too many, I don't know how my fiance lives with me.

6. I haven't been getting any homework done because I've been playing this game on my ipod.

7. I'm a Taylor Swift fan. Like, not even a closet Taylor Swift fan. It's bad.

Parting with art?

I'm finally getting to the point where I don't miss things so much when I ship them away in the mail. I just feel incredibly grateful for having had the chance to make them. (Of course, it doesn't hurt than I have digital photos of everything I make, tehe! I don't know how they did it in the old days...)

I have two more original ACEOs available on my etsy shop. They feel so tiny and delicate to me - I almost feel like I'm sending a small child off into the world for their first day of school. That probably sounds strange, but I think most of us form bonds with the things we make. That being said, I hope these girls find good homes!

In other news, my life has totally switched gears in the last week! I am only working at one job, now (The Brunswick Community Library). I had to stop working at the Troy Public Library so that I could start graduate school. I'm really missing the kids from storytime and the teens that I worked with at my weekly art club, but there's just no way I could do two jobs, full-time school, and internships at the same time without ending up with my head in an oven. 

My classes seem interesting so far. Most of them are pretty basic information science (aka librarianship) courses, but I also get to take children's lit this semester, which has always been my favorite subject! Oh, and UAlbany's downtown campus is absolutely gorgeous - filled with trees and big, beautiful brick buildings.

Birthday Booty

I turned 22 a few days ago! I got a ton of Japanese candy from one of my friends, and another gave me hoards of chocolate... which I ate before I had a chance to take a photo...

I also got a few handbags, as well as a brand-new pencil case from my mother. They are handmade by Wild Sage Bags (website / blog), and they are gorgeous and sturdy. You get to choose a bag style and they will make it in any fabric you like. (I've gotten a few bags from them and I'm a pretty big fan.)

And some little guy got onto my new birthday blanket...

Snapshots of Summer

 So far, this summer has been fabulous.There have been a lot of trips to see family and a lot of birthdays! My new baby cousin was born just a few days ago, and is absolutely gorgeous.

Anyway, here are a few of my favorite pictures from the last few weeks...

The sky right by Lake Ontario, where my grandmother lives. More specifically, this is at The Loop, and I was eating my favorite fried mushrooms at the time.

And... new reading glasses for my birthday! It might not seem like reading glasses are a huge deal, but since I spend 90% of my free time reading, writing, or drawing, I spend a lot of time in these babies.

Doodle & Graduation

Just a doodle to show that I'm still alive. Even though it's dated from last year... what can I say? I've been busy! You know, doing important things like graduating and painting my toes...

Isabella's Art Prints!

Recently, Isabella from Isabella's Art had a fan appreciation contest, and I was one of the lucky winners! The prize was six small prints from her Tell Me a Story project, and I got to chose my six favorites!

My prints arrived in the mail today, and I couldn't be more thrilled. The packaging was so beautiful and special (I've kept it! tehe), as you can see, and the prints are stunning.

Ipod Fish!

I've been not-so-subtly hinting that I wanted an ipod touch, ever since seeing some really nice ipod art. I guess Nate got tired of hearing it, because yesterday he came home with an ipod touch hidden in his pocket!

I've only purchased a few apps so far, one of them being Brushes. I'm still getting used to drawing with my finger (clearly), but it's kind of neat to have such a pint-sized sketching gadget. I'm also pretty happy about all of the free games I've downloaded. I got hooked on Castle Conflict and played for two hours straight last night...

Anyway, it's probably time for me to put the ipod down and get back to my real work...

Hoppy Valentine's Day!

I got a virus which wiped my hard drive, so no winter photos, part 2, since I hadn't backed them up yet (yeah, I know I'm stupid). At least I had printed them out ahead of time for my project!

 Instead, I've got a bunch of V-day photos. I used to be one of those people who complained about Valentine's Day being a terrible commercial holiday, but I must say... the sheer amount of chocolate I seem to receive has converted me into V-day's biggest advocate. Bring on the goodies!

And my favorite present of all. It's pink, small enough to fit in my purse, and has a really nice macro mode.
